This is a gathering place for The Gyres Society. We fear for the continued existence of KDHX as a community broadcaster and of Double Helix Corporation itself.
ABOUT
We created The Gyres Society as a Missouri nonprofit educational corporation to support community broadcasting in and for St. Louis, Missouri. The older technology of FM radio remains: we hope existing community radio broadcasters continue in good health.
However, transmitting by FCC-licensed radio imposes large costs and restrictions which we as listeners and broadcasters alike can avoid through the use of the Internet. Our efforts are principally directed, therefore, to creating and becoming an Internet-based community broadcaster. This will not be as easy as a walk in the park, but is doable by amateur lovers of community-led and produced broadcasting.
Our experiment is a joint venture in freedom: all together in diversity. Tastes in music and art vary and matter. Your voice matters. We don’t pretend to know everything. We are still at the very beginning: there is nothing yet to hear, although that may change in days.
We won’t have “play lists” – no Top 40 of any genre. We enjoy our freedom to experiment. We value curiosity, variety and free speech, especially when conveyed with courtesy, kindness, laughter and joy. We like what is here and now, our local musicians and their efforts.
So here we are, as of September 22, 2023, and hope you will join us as contributors, not only as listeners, sharing your ideas, efforts, donations, whatever pleases you to share that can help. And, just as you don’t have to live in St. Louis to listen, you don’t have to live in St. Louis to help. Our friends are both far and near.
It will take time to sort everything out, and make it happen coherently. Your patience is appreciated even as your help is welcomed. There’s an old Marine Corps catch-phrase: “The impossible we do immediately, the difficult takes time.”

Yes, we have a telephone number. You may call, but there’s no one yet to answer. Your call will go to voicemail, and we will be pleased to have your name and email address, and telephone number if you care to give it. Please don’t mumble; spell it all out.
